South Sudan Peace and Reconicilation Commission
The commission will work to promote and maintain a sustainable peace in South Sudan. It will work against all forms of violence through building unity, pursuing reconciliation and transforming conflict through dialogue, policy-making, networking, and the promotion of good governance, participatory democracy and human development.
The vision of the commission is a united and prosperous South Sudan where conflicts are resolved without violence, where communities peacefully coexist, and where equality before the law, respect for human rights and justice are upheld.
The commission has the primary responsibility in the Republic of South Sudan for the overall coordination of peace related actions. The commission shall shall advice and represent the government on matters pertaining to peace and reconciliation and strive to attain peaceful coexistence among all communities.
Message from Hon. Chairperson
The independence of South Sudan came at a time when the country faced a lot of challenges related to peace building, reconciliation and nation building.The protracted war caused both physical and psychological damage that affected the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of the people. The conflict deepened divisions among the people along tribal lines, causing tribal conflicts and animosity. There is still a huge presence of small arms that has exacerbated conflicts. The once promising way of traditional conflict management and resolution has completely broken down. (more…)
